Guinea Pigs or Cavies as they are also known make a nice pet. They do require quite a bit of cleaning of their living areas so be prepared!  You will need around one hour per day to care properly for your cavy or guinea pig.  You also need to know exactly what to feed them and how to care for their health needs and how to handle them.

Where to buy a guinea pig: It is best to ask a guinea pig shelter or rescue group or a registered club breeder because they see so many that they get to know just what works.  Always buy from a registered club breeder or rescue shelter.  Always insist on seeing the area in which the little critters are kept and if possible the parents. What how they interact in their familiar environment. Take your time in choosing and ask lots of questions.
